WHAT IS REDS? LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE:
Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDS) Is a disorder that occurs when the body does not have enough energy to support both sports performance and internal health.
As a result, the body's systems stop working properly.
At first, you may only notice subtle symptoms like a decrease in your training response, fatigue, or moodiness. As the body continues to deal with RED-S, it can affect your menstrual cycle, immune system, bones, and even your heart.

Many people don’t realize they have REDS
until an injury--like a stress fracture--occurs, or performance declines or hormones or lost ...
By that time, the effects of the disorder could already be causing long-term damage.
THE GOOD NEWS:
If REDS is detected early, most (and sometimes all) of the health consequences are reversible, and performance can be optimized once again!

A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH IS OFTEN NEEDED
REDS is a complicated syndrome affecting many areas of the body. The best approach often involves a Sports Dietitian, Psychologist, Sports Psychologist, and/or Mental Health Counselor, as well as a Sports Physician, Endocrinologist, and/or Gynecologist. As a sports dietitian, I have worked with hundreds of female athletes to recover from REDS. I am no longer able to provide 1:1 assistance. However, by joining my REDS Recovery Membership, I can refer you to dozens of experts in this area. I may also be able to assist you with lab work and gut testing as appropriate. Despite the REDS Recovery Membership being a group setting, there is plenty of opportunity for all individualized questions to be asked, and I can help you create your care team.
